Telepathy, a form of extra-sensory perception, is the reading of another person's mind. A long-running strand of folklore, telepathy did not undergo scientific scrutiny until the closing years of the twentieth century, when the Society for Psychical Research took a close interest. In the 1930s Dr J. B. Rhine investigated telepathy in the laboartory, using zener cards to create a statistical framework for his studies. At first he obtained impressive results, but these later dwindled to average scores.
